The March Leadership Kenosha session focused on the education sector, providing participants with valuable insights into the programs, challenges, and opportunities shaping education in our community. Hosted by Kenosha Emerging Leaders Academy (KELA), the day was filled with learning, reflection, and actionable strategies to support students and educational initiatives in Kenosha.
The day began with an overview and tour of KELA. Executive Director Atifa Robinson shared how KELA is transforming the lives of students ages 12-24 through impactful programs and exciting new initiatives. Atifa also shared some exciting updates on upcoming projects and initiatives that will expand KELA’s impact in the community.
Next, we engaged with Building Our Future, an organization dedicated to ensuring that all Kenosha students thrive from cradle to career. This session, led by Brandon Morris, Maggie Campbell (LK23), and Kevin Meagher (LK22), highlighted the many ways Building Our Future builds networks and capacity to support key milestones across students’ educational journeys. Participants explored educational data during a "data walk," examining both bright spots and gaps within Kenosha's education landscape. This interactive experience sparked meaningful conversations about ways to advocate for change. We also heard from Wendy Tindall, Chief Academic Officer for Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD), who shared updates on key district initiatives. Wendy highlighted how KUSD is working to ensure equitable access to quality education and how they are preparing students for success in a rapidly changing world.
The afternoon shifted focus to personal and professional development as consultant H. Muir guided participants through a powerful leadership brand workshop. By reflecting on our top five strengths, we crafted our Power Source, Purpose, Pitch, and Platform. We articulated our unique leadership style and identified how we can leverage our strengths to make a meaningful impact in our community and workplaces. This workshop encouraged participants to use their leadership brand as a guide when communicating their skills, values, and goals in both professional and volunteer settings.
Thank you to all our speakers and to Kenosha Emerging Leaders Academy for making our March session so meaningful and memorable!
