Magazine joins Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce in a ‘sharing of the tongs’ to infuse new life into popular summer festival set for Aug. 24-26

KENOSHA, Wis. – One of the city’s most anticipated summer festivals will boast a new look and feel – but the same great tastes – this year as Happenings Magazine joins forces with the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce for a revamped celebration of what has historically been known as Grill Games.

This year, the event gets a new name and a fresh shot of vision as the newly christened Bands, Brews & BBQs on the Kenosha Lakefront The event is set for Aug. 24-26 at Pennoyer & Kennedy Parks.

Happenings will bring its decades of festival expertise to the food booths and entertainment lineup, while the Chamber will once again oversee the BBQ competition featuring teams from national touring ranks of the Kansas City Barbecue Society.

“It’s not a passing of the torch – more a sharing of the tongs,” Chamber President Lou Molitor said. “Our teaming up with Happenings ensures we’ll attract the best entertainment to pair with the best BBQ.”

Happenings Editor and Publisher Frank Carmichael agreed that this year’s celebration with be the best yet.

“We’re going to be throwing in all the ingredients to make Bands, Brews & BBQs one of the most unique summer festivals in the region,” he said. “There is no place like our beautiful lakefront to enjoy great food, great music and an all-around great time with family and friends.”

The three-day event is Kenosha’s biggest BBQ festival and will feature live entertainment throughout the day, activities for the kids, a beer garden, and a chance to taste some of the finest BBQ around.

Festivalgoers can watch the national teams compete for their state prizes, learn their secrets, taste and purchase BBQ, and vote for their favorite teams.

Admission is free and donations are welcome. A portion of the proceeds benefit the scholarship foundation of the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce.
